Portrait Photography FAQs

Whether you’re getting together for a big family reunion, your young family is just starting to grow, or you prideful senior is about to graduate, there’s always a reason to have stunning, professional portraits made.

How much does it cost?

This is always the bottom line. How much will this set me back? Before you start seeking out the dollar signs on the price sheet, keep in mind that you are paying for professional quality images worthy of wall art to be hung above your fireplace and adorned for years to come – a claim that even your Uncle Bob can’t make. But this deal is even better than that – you just pay a non-refundable fee of $200 up front to reserve your shoot date. This fee is completely deductible from your print, album or digital file order. That means you can get the session done, receive an 8×10, 2 5×7’s AND your favorite digital file for no additional money! That’s a steal right? For more info on pricing, download my price guide.

Sounds great, where's your studio?

I don’t work out of a studio. It’s much better than that. I work on location where I can photograph you and your family in a location of your choice. No more cheesy, awkward posing with fake landscape backdrops – we go to your home, a park, downtown, wherever – to make fun, relaxed and natural photographs in places that capture your true personalities. Make a day of it and enjoy some outdoor time. I love to make joyful, spontaneous images of my clients and I want them to find it easy to relax and have fun.

How long does it take?

Usually about an hour is enough time to capture true personalities and a few fun moments from my clients. Sometimes it can be more if the opportunity arises and you’re game. I prefer to set up my appointments later in the afternoon to take advantage of the better light.

What do we wear?

Good question! I prefer you wear something between business attire and working-in-the-yard grubbies. I would also rather you not go all full-family match-y. I like nice, but casual and comfortable clothing that compliments other family members. Earth tones and subtle complimentary colors are great. Try to avoid super bright colors or loud prints or shirts with big words on them. They can be distracting. We want to draw the viewer to you, and less so to what you are wearing.

Can you make me look skinny?

Same answer for everything else I do; I am photo-journalistic by nature and I do very limited Photoshop work. I’ll color balance, crop and tone images and even do some skin retouching, but I can’t change your body composition or any other drastic manipulation.

When do we see our photos?

Shortly after the session we’ll get together to go over the images and you can decide what you would like to purchase. The price guide outlines my most popular products. I also have other print sizes and product options, so just let me know what you’re thinking.

Do I get the copyright?

As with all of my other photography, I do reserve the copyright on my photography. My work is my livelihood and I use it to grow my business. Giving up my copyright would essentially prevent me from legally being able to show my work – not good. So instead I license the images you purchase to you to use however you want to. There is no limit to your personal use of your images.

Hopefully, those cleared up some of your concerns. However, if you have further questions or would like to discuss your portraits please contact me.
